Parachute sizing is the question we get most from teachers and parents, and the answer is simpler than the dozens of listings make it look: count your kids, measure your space, pick the size. Here is the whole decision.

The quick answer

• 6 foot: 2 to 6 kids. Home, daycare, therapy sessions, birthday parties.
• 12 foot: 8 to 16 kids. The classroom standard, and the best all-around pick for PE.
• 20 foot: 16 to 30 kids. Full classes, field days, camps, big gyms only.

How to choose by group

Parents and small groups

A 6 foot parachute fits a living room and two to four kids, which is the real-world scenario at home. It is also the size pediatric therapists use for one-on-one work. Bigger is not better here: a 12 foot chute with three kids drags on the floor and the games fall flat.

Teachers and coaches

The 12 foot is the workhorse. A typical PE class splits into two groups of twelve, or runs one group while the other does a spot marker station. It fits in half a gym, popcorn and mushroom games work properly, and one teacher can manage it alone. Choose the 20 foot only if you genuinely run 20-plus kids on one chute and have a full gym or field, because a 20 foot chute in a small space is chaos with handles.

Space check before you buy

You need the parachute's diameter plus about 6 feet of clearance all around, since kids step backward to pull it taut. A 12 foot chute really needs an 18 to 20 foot circle. Measure your gym, basement, or yard against that before deciding.

Features that actually matter

• Handles: sewn, reinforced handles, enough for your group. This is the first failure point on cheap chutes.
• Stitching: double-stitched seams between color panels. Mushroom games put surprising load on seams.
• Mesh center: useful, not essential. It vents air so the chute settles faster between games and gives ball games a target.
• Carry bag: sounds trivial until you have stuffed a parachute into a gym closet 180 school days in a row.

Things that do not matter: panel count, exact color order, and most claimed weight differences. Fabric quality and handle stitching decide how long a parachute lives.
